A new hydrogel developed by the SSSA-IOR teams

Gellan gum, a polysaccharide sharing structural features with glycosaminoglycans, is emerging as a focal point in the field of cartilage tissue engineering. By incorporating methacrylic components, it undergoes chemical modification to yield a photo-crosslinkable formulation known as methacrylated gellan gum (GGMA). The vision behind GGMA is to facilitate injection and on-the-spot cross-linking through light exposure directly on the cartilage surface.

SSSA and IOR teams collaborated to explore a novel visible light-sensitive GGMA hydrogel for the treatment of chondral defects.
